What Stories Do Your Books Tell?

24 Jul

I love to go to used book stores, yard sales and auctions to buy books. Inevitably, you find little personal details of the previous owners within them. Old photographs. Coins. Letters. I even found a four-leave clover in a book on superstitions.

The Guardian's Theresa Malone has a terrific column about the life of books – and how electronic devices take away the pleasures of a book's past.

Master of Horror King Talks Better Writing Techniques

24 Nov

Stephen King is a master storyteller – and many authors out there hope to one day have his fame (and fortune). In this blog post from The Positivity Blog, the author reminds reader-writers of King’s top tips for becoming a better writer, which are featured in his book, On Writing (available at the Wicked Wordsmith store). Even if you’ve read this highly-recommended book, it never hurts to refresh your memory.

Hundreds of Heads Needs Stories

09 Jan

Hundreds of Heads is currently looking for stories to fill two new titles:

  • How To Survive Getting Your Kid Through College
  • How To Survive The SATs/ACTs

I did this a few years ago for a book on pets and it’s a lot of fun – but doesn’t pay. You will be interviewed – by email, phone, IM, text message, whatever you prefer – for about 15 minutes. You can tell odd/inspirational/entertaining stories that others can relate to – all the while giving them advice on how to handle this particular adventure in life. Your story may appear if it fits the book’s criteria.

Want details? Visit Hundreds of Heads for more details, or email Editor Jamie Allen at jamie@hundredsofheads.com.
